Lazonby Trips the Light Fantastic: A Comic Gothic Fandangle by Anthony E. Thorogood

What Da Cover Says: Lazonby, a charismatic man about London town, finds himself engaged to the mysterious, red headed and wild eyed Larisha. ‘She was dressed in a black flowing medieval robe decorated with blood red roses and her hair was long, flowing and red. Her provocatively wild eyes were mesmerizing.’ Is she werewolf, vampire or just misunderstood?

‘Move over Frankenstein, out of the way Dracula , Larisha is here.’

What I Says: I do enjoy Thorogood’s books, super quirky and so easy to read, the humour is spot on too. Everybody knows what the hoity-toity aristocrats in England are like and Thorogood has captured them perfectly in this book, from their silly names, to crumbling mansions to their love of wine and tradition, it is all here.

Our protagonist is the ridiculously named Lazonby (full name not being reprinted here cos it is too long haha), he likes mint humbugs, not drinking alcohol and his mother, he hates the uncouth, alcohol and his mother. He has been spoilt rotten and his behaviour, whilst making you laugh, does make you feel sorry for his mum. The book starts off with a few small adventures but when faced with an arranged marriage things start to take a dark turn.

Favourite part of the book? That would have to be Raylene and Joylene, they were wonderful fun and their back and forth chatter had me smiling away…deserving of a spin-off book in my opinion.

Good fun and games as always with a Thorogood story.
